Go the Duvalay Way and try the new Hilary Devey Collection

Stepping into the National Bed Federation’s Bed Show, we were quickly greeted by familiar faces loyal to some of the best bed manufacturers we deal with – Burgess Beds, Millbrook, and Hypnos beds (to name a few!). While we like to engage with our current existing manufacturers at these events, we do like to be inspired by upcoming manufacturers offering a high quality product – and of course become acquainted with their history and their vision for the future.

Michael and I were met by the beaming and enthusiastic Liz, brimming with confidence in Duvalay’s bed products and understandably their achievements. The new Hilary Devey collection by Duvalay has a unique story behind its origin. A fan of Dragon’s Den? In 2011, Liz and Alan (founders of Duvalay) embarked on a journey to pitch their business objectives to the Dragons and captured the attention of Hilary Devey – who has a renowned passion for luxurious home interiors (as well as logistics!). Upon first entering the bedding world with their original Duvalay portable mattress-topper concept, the husband and wife team realised their potential to tap into the Home bedding industry. Their demonstrable success and the determination, passion and enthusiasm for their future and projected growth of Duvalay, won the heart of Hilary. Together they formulated and developed a beautiful bed collection, offering 5-star luxury at affordable prices – the “Hilary Devey collection”.

The Hilary Devey collection

The Hilary Devey collection consists of 5 mattresses to choose from, 2 of which are pillow top mattresses: Topaz; Diamond; Diamond Luxe; Sapphire – Pillow top; and Emerald – Pillow top.

Each bed has pocketed springs secured by traditional hand-side stitching, topped with differing levels of luxurious bed fillings, depending on the bed specification. Regardless of which bed and respective specification you choose, each filling within the mattress is beautifully balanced to provide a “natural” comforting role. Already gaining momentum, one model from the range “Diamond” has been named the number one bed on the market by the Independent. The Diamond – consisting of 2000 nested pocket springs and layers of finest natural fillings, featuring a Summer side (Cotton) and Winter side (Wool, Cashmere) – offers supreme quality and comfort for any customer.

Duvalay offer a 10 year warranty on beds within their Hilary Devey collection. Should any manufacturing defects occur with your mattress within the first 5 years, Duvalay will repair or replace your product free of charge. For the proceeding years, a scaling warranty applies based on usage.

We were very impressed by the product and what it offers to our customers. So I urge you to consider to go the “The Duvalay Way” and come to our showroom to try the new Hilary Devey collection. The products can be seen and purchased online here: Duvalay

5 ways to improve your sleeping environment

5 ways to improve your sleeping environment

Do you have trouble sleeping? Are you waking up in the night? Perhaps you wake up with an aching back, an aching neck or a generally stiff body?

You may want to consider changing your bed, your mattress and indeed your whole sleeping environment and routine.

Here at Bedsite, we have extensive experience within the bed and furniture industry and, as a result, have provided 5 ways you can improve your night’s sleep.

Getting a good night’s sleep

Ensure a spacious environment

Make sure you have a bedroom that is not full of clutter and emphasises the space that you have in your room. You can do this by using a light coloured paint on the walls, purchasing a bed and bedroom furniture that does not take up too much room, as well as clearing out any unwanted items you have.

This can help you feel much more calm and relaxed in your bedroom space. Bedsite have a number of calming interior accessories that can help you make the most of your bedroom space, such as a coat stand or relaxing Buddha canvas print.

Change your mattress

An old or uncomfortable mattress could be causing you discomfort and disturbing your sleep, without you even realising the cause behind your problem.

As a general rule, mattresses should be changed every 8 years for optimum performance and to avoid any bodily aches and pains after a night’s sleep.

At Bedsite, we have an extensive range of innovative, comfortable mattresses that can help you get the best night’s sleep possible.

Make sure you are comfortable in your bed

A comfortable bed can make all the difference when it comes to having a good night’s sleep. We have a range of high-quality beds that you can purchase to help improve your sleep quality. Our beds are not only aesthetically-pleasing, they are extremely comfortable and great value. We have options in a variety of sizes and styles, allowing you to find the bed that’s perfect for you.

Technology

Using a phone or watching a TV in the bedroom can both be detrimental to your sleep quality. The bright lights from our screens stimulate our brains which can affect melatonin, a hormone that is necessary for a quality night’s sleep. Studies have shown that reading a book during the last hour before bed is a far better option than watching television or using a phone. Your sleep environment is for sleep, try and avoid bringing work or food into the bedroom.

Routine

Getting into a consistent sleep routine is a great way to improve your sleep quality. You’ve got the right mattress and the right bed but if you aren’t keeping to a consistent schedule you will not truly feel the benefits of the Bedsite products. Avoid alcohol, nicotine and caffeine that can interfere with sleep and try to create an environment that promotes sleep. Eliminate natural light with blackout blinds, heavy curtains or an eye mask.

What to consider when ordering furniture online

Ordering online can cause unnecessary anxiety and headaches, particularly if you don’t order online often.

There are different issues to consider, the logistics of moving the furniture into your home, the aesthetics of the product and whether it looks as good in real life as it did online.

At Bedsite, we understand that there are lots of things to think about when buying from us online. So we’ve put together a handy list of things to think about before ordering your furniture.

Make sure it’s the right product for you

It can be difficult to order furniture online, sometimes looking not quite as you expected when it’s delivered to your doorstep. The easiest way to make sure it’s the right product for you is to do some research.

On many products Bedsite offers in-depth photographs on what the actual product looks like. This can be particularly helpful when deciding on the specific colour or style of an item. It’s much easier to gauge whether or not you like the colour of a product from actual, comparable photos of the different options rather than just a colour chart.

Our products are separated into helpful, specific categories to help you get the right product for the right space and purpose. Decide what that new table will be used for and visit the right category for that product, whether it be a table for the office, the living room or the dining room.

Delivery from Bedsite

The delivery of a large item of furniture could be a stressful experience. The easiest way to avoid this is to make sure you’ve accurately measured the space that the furniture will occupy, as well as any doors or stairs that will need to be navigated to access that space.

If there are any specific obstacles that Bedsite should be made aware of, please do so at the earliest opportunity. If there are weight/height/parking restrictions, the property is an apartment or in a high-rise building or if access to the property is generally difficult. Knowing this important information before-hand will make the process of delivery a whole lot easier.

You can access a full list of delivery information on our website.

Check all relevant information before ordering

It sounds simple but it’s an easy mistake to make. For example, make sure you’ve selected the right size of bed, mattress and headboard. Check before ordering to see if the product you are ordering is available in a variety of colours, make sure you’re getting the colour you want!

Avoid disappointment by making sure all delivery, contact and payment information is correct and up to date.

Contact Bedsite for more information

If you have any doubts or reservations about ordering a product from Bedsite we would recommend getting in touch. Our friendly experts are on hand to ease any issues you may have during the ordering process to ensure you get the high-quality product you want.

For more information on any of Bedsite’s products or services don’t hesitate to contact us online or call us directly on 0161 639 0994.

Millbrook Bed Ortho Spectrum 2000

Do you suffer from a bad back? Have you thought about changing your mattress? Sleeping on an old or worn mattress can worsen back pain. This is because sleeping on an unsupported mattress can cause your spine to be out of alignment, making muscle pains and sprains more severe and causing poor sleeping posture.

At Bedsite, our leading UK online bed suppliers encourage the use of high quality, well-supported mattresses that will provide comfort and rehabilitation for bad backs. Whether you are young and athletic, or older with mobility issues, we have a mattress that will suit you.

An orthopaedic mattress is ultimately a mattress that has been designed to give extra support to your body, and particularly your back. An orthopaedic mattress can help keep your spine in alignment, as well as support any aches and pains you may have, while avoiding painful pressure points. Many people realise the benefits of a quality orthopaedic mattress, claiming that their back pain has been relieved since purchasing one.

At Bedsite, we sell a range of orthopaedic mattresses from reliable brands like Millbrook, Hypnos, Sealy and more, all for unbeatable prices.

How often should you replace your mattress?

Millbrook Bed Ortho Spectrum 2000

As a family-run business that has been involved in the furniture trade since 1879, at Bedsite, we like to think of ourselves as experts in the furniture industry. Having owned multiple stores and now proving a leading UK online supplier of beds and mattresses, we are extremely passionate about the furniture trade and ensure we keep up to date with both modern furniture products and furniture trade news.

Millbrook Bed Ortho Spectrum 2000

Because we understand that the real value is in the quality of the goods, we sell furniture from some of the world’s finest brands. However, when it comes to your mattress, its quality can easily deteriorate if you don’t replace it regularly. So how often should you replace your mattress, and what are the warning signs that your mattress might need replacing?

Replacing your mattress

If you have owned your mattress for longer than eight years, then you should definitely be considering buying a new mattress and replacing your old one. After approximately eight years, a mattress will naturally start to lose the shape and comfort it once had. After all, we may not realise it, but we generally spend a fairly high percentage of our time on our mattress, and investing in a new one to replace an old and tired mattress, offers numerous benefits to our health.

How can replacing your mattress improve your health and wellbeing?

How many people do you know complain that they’ve got a bad back, and are experiencing back pain? Do you have a sore back yourself? Or perhaps another body part is suffering from aches and pains? Perhaps one solution may be investing in a new mattress?

Even high-quality mattresses will undoubtedly become worn, and are prone to ageing and losing the shape and comfort they once had. Mattresses that are older than eight years may not give the support your body needs during rest and, you never know, this could cause you aches and pains or, indeed, make existing pain worse.

For example, some people may wake up in the morning feeling stiff and uncomfortable, which may be a sign that you should change your mattress to improve your night’s sleep. Additionally, if you have a better night’s sleep when you are on holiday, perhaps when you’re staying in a hotel or B&B, it may be that your mattress at home needs replacing. Okay, so we’re not promising that a new mattress is a miracle cure for that pulled muscle or aching limb, however, a new mattress may just provide a more solid, comfortable structure to sleep on, to help ease your aches and pains.

Other indications that your mattress needs changing

Changing your mattress every eight years is only a guideline figure and, ultimately, many people will need to change their mattress sooner. If your body shape has changed dramatically, for example, you’ve suddenly got lighter or heavier, then your existing mattress may no longer provide you with the comfort and support you now need (this is often the case with children!)

What’s more, if your partner gets uncomfortable in bed, then you should look for a new mattress that suits you both, as a couple. At Bedsite, we’ve got a number of double mattresses and king-size mattresses available that may significantly improve both yours and your partner’s quality of sleep.

Finally, visible signs of ageing in the mattress (like sticking-out springs, dips and bulges), as well as unwelcome creaks and noises, are all signs that your mattress needs replacing!

Read Millbrook Beds News for 2014

The latest Millbrook beds news for 2014 is that from Monday February 3rd, Millbrook beds and mattresses from their older collections will no longer be available for customers to purchase. The popular former Dreams range, Pocket Latex, Counties and Planets collections are those affected, whilst their top range – Grandeur has been added to. Internet & Promotional collections make up the rest of the Millbrook ranges, whilst headboards and accessories are for the best part left unchanged.

It was a surprise last year when somewhat out of the blue it became apparent that Millbrook would not be taking a stand at the annual bed show in Telford. Whilst the NBF “Bed Show” was an overall success, it would’ve been an even stronger event were it not for the absence of one of the UK’s leading handmade bed and mattress manufacturers. The Telford show came to early for Millbrook, whom were still constructing their 2014 concept.

Millbrook Beds News, 2014 re-launch

There has been widespread anticipation amongst the long standing retailers of Millbrook Beds, as we have been looking forward to what in many respects is a 2014 re-launch. Millbrook Beds news in 2014 for the UK bed market represents a renewed focus on using the best quality fillings, hand nested pocket springs and the quality of workmanship which is unmistakingly Millbrook. Below is a picture of a Millbrook bed, and it’s impossible not to sit up and take note of what is inside. These types of profile images are usually only done by manufacturers like Vi-Spring whose beds range for £3,000 to more than £25,000.

Our Marple (near Stockport) showroom bed display includes some of the key Grandeur models including the Majestic, Hermitage and Splendour for our customers to try. Our relationship with Millbrook goes back more than 50 years to when we were selling Millbrook sofas from our showrooms in the North West.

Octaspring Mattress Review

What type of springs are in your mattress?

When looking to do an Octaspring mattress review my immediate thoughts are to consider whether we could contemplate a future where springs are no longer made from metal. When Dormeo decided to run with the Octaspring range of beds they were inadvertently asking themselves the same question. As none of their models contain any metal then we have their answer. All of the research is also pointing towards a trend towards foam and away from metal as the primary component. That Octaspring have chosen to model their concept on foam springs is interesting because all other foam concepts are based on ‘block’ concepts with cut outs for breath-ability. Only time will tell whether foam springs become popular and the acid test will inevitably be whether other manufacturers chose to follow down Octasprings path.

Octaspring Mattress Review

Of the four models in the Octaspring range the 8500 & 8000 top end models both have a medium feel whilst the 6500 & 5500 have a firmer feel. The 8500 as the flagship model is only available from independent retailers and direct from Octaspring whilst the other models have “sister” variants which are available at Dreams stores.  Customer preference has been towards the 8500 for the luxury feel at a lower price than Dreams are selling their 8000 variant. As with any mattress selection personal preference is the most critical element when purchasing from the Octaspring range. The difference is that Octaspring offer a trial through their retailer network which we partake in. If you are not satisfied with the feel of your new Octaspring then you can change for another in the range or alternatively chose from one of the other manufacturers we work with.

Alternative mattresses to Octaspring

From the new Geltex concept (Sealy & Silentnight) to handmade beds from Hypnos and Millbrook, our Octaspring mattress review doesn’t exist within a vacuum. Octaspring have launched within the market as an alternative to Tempur. Similar price points, marketing approach and ambitions, not to mention many of the old Tempur team are helping to drive the global Octaspring brand. Octaspring as a concept can be seen immediately as next generation Tempur, even following the launch earlier this year of Tempur’s new range. Air flow is the key advantage and the ability to touch and feel an actual Octaspring in store presents customers With Sealy (the world’s leading bed and mattress brand) planning an all foam product for the UK market to be launched in 2014 it is clear that consumer awareness will increase which can only be good for Octaspring. Traditional handmade beds and volume machine mattresses will inevitably see market share lost to new concepts over the coming years. In terms of look and feel, as our quality of life becomes a point of increasing awareness, Octaspring and other premium mattress manufacturers will surely see market share grow.

Click here to take a look at our Octaspring mattresses on Bedsite or you can alternatively call or visit our Marple bed showroom.

Whilst we don’t have customer feedback for products on the website, we’re interested to hear from you if you want your say as part of our Octaspring mattress review. Please post comments about your experience.
